How this calculation works
Plan a purchase from floor area, the coverage printed on each pack and a cutting allowance. Material cost uses whole packs, making the effect of pack size visible before ordering. This is particularly useful for planks and other floor finishes sold by pack coverage rather than by individual dimensions; Tile is the better fit when tile dimensions and pieces per box are known.
Worked example
This example uses illustrative inputs. Your current result is shown above.
For 500 ft², packs covering 20 ft² each, a ₹1,500 pack price and 10% waste, required coverage is 550 ft². ceiling(550 ÷ 20) = 28 packs, costing ₹42,000 and supplying 560 ft².
Assumptions and limits
- Floor area and pack coverage are both square feet. Pack price includes only whatever the supplied quote includes.
- Labour, underlay, adhesives, skirting, delivery and tax are excluded unless already included in the pack price. Waste does not model a specific layout.
Questions people ask
Why is the purchase coverage above the waste-adjusted area?
A partial pack is rounded upward to the next full pack. That surplus is separate from the waste percentage.
Can I compare products with different pack sizes?
Yes. Re-enter each product’s coverage and pack price with the same room area and waste assumption; the whole-pack total is the relevant comparison.
