Method

Monthly EPF credit C = monthly wages × (employee percent + employer EPF percent)/100. Let i = (1 + annual rate/100)^(1/12) − 1 and N = 12 × years. Maturity = opening balance × (1+i)^N + C[(1+i)^N−1]/i; future contributions = CN; interest = maturity − opening balance − CN. At i = 0, use CN for the contribution value.

How this calculation works

Project an existing EPF balance plus monthly employee and employer EPF credits. Enter only the employer portion actually credited to EPF, not an undivided employer retirement contribution. The calculation is a constant-wage savings projection; it does not reproduce a passbook’s monthly interest accrual and annual credit entries.

Worked example

This example uses illustrative inputs. Your current result is shown above.

Enter ₹1,00,000 opening balance, ₹20,000 monthly wages, 12% employee and 3.67% employer EPF shares, 1 year and 0% interest to isolate credits. Monthly EPF credit is ₹3,134. Future contributions are ₹37,608 and closing balance is ₹1,37,608.

Assumptions and limits

  • The entered wage base and both contribution percentages remain unchanged.
  • New credits arrive at month-end, using an effective monthly equivalent of the annual rate.
  • EPS pension allocations, wage ceilings, salary growth, withdrawals and tax adjustments are not automatically determined.

Questions people ask

Should I enter the employer’s full 12% contribution?

Use the percentage actually credited to EPF for your case. An employer contribution can have components that are not added to this EPF balance; the calculator does not split them for you.

Why does the result differ from my passbook?

Actual wage bases, deposit timing, applicable annual rates and interest-crediting rules may differ. This projection assumes fixed monthly credits and a smooth monthly growth equivalent.
