Working days = included calendar dates − Saturday/Sunday dates − distinct entered holidays falling on included weekdays. Weekend holidays are not subtracted twice.

How this calculation works

Count Monday–Friday dates in a range after excluding the holiday dates you supply. The start date is included; you choose whether to include the end date. This is a configurable arithmetic count, not a live bank, court or regional holiday calendar.

Working days = included calendar dates − Saturday/Sunday dates − distinct entered holidays falling on included weekdays. Weekend holidays are not subtracted twice.

From Monday 1 January 2024 through Friday 5 January 2024, with the end included and 3 January entered as a holiday: 5 calendar dates − 0 weekend dates − 1 holiday = 4 working days.

Assumptions and limits

  • The start must be on or before the end. The start is included, and the end follows the checkbox.
  • Saturday and Sunday are treated as weekends; alternative workweeks are not supported by these fields.
  • Supply every applicable holiday yourself. Duplicate entries, out-of-range dates and weekend holidays do not create extra deductions.

Questions people ask

Are Indian public holidays filled in automatically?

No. Enter the dates applicable to your state, organisation and purpose. A bank holiday, school closure and statutory deadline can follow different calendars.

Does this calculate a legal filing deadline?

No. It counts dates under the displayed convention. Filing rules can specify different start exclusions, holidays, cutoffs and extensions; consult the governing rule.
